Condominium: Pool Room
If you and your faithful crew were caught up in a storm at sea, and your boat dashed against the rocky shore, you might hope to end up on a deserted island as nice as this!
Taking his cue from the pool itself, which (according to Michael Lee) “looked like something out of Gilligan's Island”, the artist began to weave a story in exquisite visual detail.
One entire wall of the room now looks out to sea. The sails, rigging, lumber and even fishhooks from the wreckage of the S.S. Breezeway have been used to create some modest shelter from the elements and lend to the room's decor.
The fine details bring the story to life... Careful inspection of the tattered map reveals the coordinates of the hurricane’s final fury and the location of the last SOS sent to civilization.
Note the integration of the wicker chairs, thatched roof and bamboo ladder with the painted elements.
The survivors are counting the days they've been stranded. Nothing to do here but go swimming (again) and enjoy the beautiful view (still). Perhaps getting rescued isn’t such a good idea after all...
The boat’s rusty iron fishhook, painted with incredible attention to detail, is all that holds the ship's sail in place, provided some level of protection from the elements.
This set of photos shows the completion of a vision: To the left, spare white walls and shelf, an empty room. To the right, a seaside vista, thatched roof and tattered rigging giving way to a perfect blue sky. A broken Captain’s wheel put to a new use and bamboo poles providing a new structure for the A-frame roof.
